  12. The historic Canada Maltings administrative office in Eireann Quay will undergo a major restoration and renovation through an investment of more than $4.5 million from the federal government. The project is also being funded by the Government of Ireland and the Canada Ireland Foundation.

  45. On February 20, 2024, Ganesh Persaud, an inmate from Millhaven Institution’s Regional Treatment Centre, died while in our custody of apparent natural causes.
  46. The Government of Canada is investing over $5.87 million through the Green and Inclusive Community Building (GICB) program to support three recreational and community centre retrofit projects across the City of Markham, Ontario. In addition, the Government of Canada is also supporting the Mount Joy Community Centre through an investment of more than $590,000 through the Canada Community-Building Fund (CCBF). The City of Markham is contributing more than $1.55 million towards these three projects.
  47. — Community centres in Markham will get retrofits to assist the City in reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. The federal government and City of Markham will invest more than $6.4 million and $1.5 million, respectively, towards energy efficient upgrades for the Mount Joy Community Centre, Thornhill Community Centre, and the RJ Clatworthy Arena.
